Yvadney Davis ( @yvandey )
As well as being achingly cool and a beautiful soul through and through, Yvadney is a London-based fashion stylist with over 15 years experience in the fashion industry. After graduating from Central Saint Martins, she began a successful career in PR, moving into fashion styling, writing and consulting.
Yvadney became a mum in 2012 and discovered the uber cool, imaginative and uninhibited world of kids fashion. By bringing a touch of her eclectic style to her work, Yvadney quickly established herself as one of the go-to stylists in the industry.
Alongside her styling career, Yvadney is also the founder of Mums That Slay (@mumsthatslay) the online platform she built to give mums a space to self indulge, focusing on fashion, beauty, well-being and their careers, with a whole crew of other mamas cheering them on along the way. Her newest project Mums That Rave (@mumsthatrave) is a collaboration with legendary DJ Nikki Beatnik, both mums work hard and play harder and wanted to create an outlet for other mums on the grind to get lit in style! Their first networking brunch / panel / day rave is on Saturday 1st June and with Yvadney's signature touch, is likely to be pure magic.
Here's what Yvadney told us when we sat down to ask her how she slays her way through work, life and mamahood...
WHERE DO YOU LIVE?
My husband and 2 kids
WHERE IS YOUR HAPPY PLACE?
Old Fort Bay, The Bahamas
WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO AT THE MOMENT?
Kehlani on repeat
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST GUILTY PLEASURE?
Jackie Collins novels
WHAT’S IN YOUR HANDBAG TODAY?
My handbag is currently an explosion of coffee shop napkins, my purse, makeup bag, Paw Paw ointment, spare earrings, notebook & pencil, headphones and ‘The Freelance Mum’ by Annie Ridout
WHAT’S YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION?
My rainbow sequin Miu Miu heels. My husband gave them to me as a wedding gift, because he saw me coo over them in a copy of Vogue one day. I can walk but a few steps in them, so if I'm not wearing them at my desk (they inspire me) they sit on a ledge for me to drool over.
WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE PERSON ON THE GRAM?
It used to be Prince (I still miss him!), but would have to be Tracey Ellis Ross (@traceeellisross) she is so stylish, talented and funny - the complete package.
WHAT’S YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
An colourful mix of street, Caribbean and Studio 54 - eclectic!
WHO’S YOUR STYLE ICON?
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?
HOW WOULD YOU HAVE ANSWERED THAT WHEN YOU WERE A KID?
WHAT’S THE ONE PIECE OF CAREERS ADVICE YOU WISH YOU’D BEEN GIVEN?
To think bigger and just go for it. That means stepping out of your comfort zone, giving it a go and seizing opportunities when they come up.
WHAT’S YOUR PARENTING STYLE?
Unfortunately for my kids, I flit between playful, creative, huggy mum and “yes you will wake up and practise your violin” “glad you’ve done your homework, now here’s mine!” Both my husband and I take academia very seriously as we believe in having great foundations to be able to thrive!
WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER ONE MUM HACK?
Take time out for yourself - happy mum = happy kids
WHAT’S THE WORST DECISION YOU’VE EVER MADE?
I have no regrets, but sometimes wonder what would have happened if I turned down the PR job after I graduated to head to L.A. and work in costume
WHAT’S YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT?
WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?
My children. When you look at life from a child’s point of view everything changes
WHAT KEEPS YOU UP AT NIGHT?
Spotify playlists and Pinterest rabbit holes
WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU TODAY?
Turning off Spotify and hitting the sack
AND THIS YEAR?
I’ve collaborated with my friend DJ Nikki Beatnik to start a daytime networking brunch and rave for mums called Mums That Rave. We’re both creative and wanted to create an outlet for other mums to take time out, connect, have fun and dance hard! We’re having our first event in a few weeks, so it’s all systems go ! All very exciting, particularly for me entering the world of clubs and events.
